The Club was formed in 1989 with
the following main objectives:

- To represent the interests of boat users to Local and
National decision making bodies.
- To improve facilities for boaters on the Canal.
The club is open to;
- Boat Users
- Boat Owners
- Canal Enthusiasts
In fact anyone who just enjoys ‘messing
about in boats’ whether or not they own one.
From its formation the club has
undertaken a number of tasks and activities including:
- The building of several water points on the canal
- The waterspace management for the re-opening of the
canal in 1991
- The running of boaters competitions at a number of
events including the national Waterways Festival at Henley in 1997 and the
National Trailboat Rally at Wootton Bassett in 1998.
- Fundraising at its events in support of a number of
causes including, Boating for the Handicapped and the back-pumping scheme
for the Woodham locks on the canal
- Participating, since their beginning in 1995, in
twinning activities with the Canal D’Orleans, with occasional visits in
alternate directions
